The Feliway Optimum plug in is a calming diffuser for cats. It plugs into a wall socket and releases a synthetic pheromone complex that Feliway says helps with spraying, scratching, hiding and tension between cats. The starter kit has one diffuser and a 48ml refill that lasts about 30 days. On 11 October 2026 Amazon UK had the starter kit at £20.18, sold and dispatched by Amazon.

What the Feliway Optimum plug in is
Feliway is made by Ceva, an animal health company. Its older Feliway Classic copies the facial pheromone cats leave when they rub their cheeks on furniture, which marks a place as safe. Optimum uses a newer pheromone complex that Feliway designed to cover more signs of stress.
You plug it in and leave it switched on. There is no scent for people, and Feliway says it has no effect on other pets.

The limits
It does not work on every cat. On Feliway's own shop the starter kit averages 3.9 out of 5 from 204 reviews, and 37 of those reviewers gave it one star.
Feliway says many owners see a change within seven days but recommends at least a month before you judge it. That means at least one refill on top of the starter kit.
Refills are an ongoing cost, about £19 to £25 a month depending on where you buy. Feliway's own subscription takes 30% off.
Placement matters. Feliway says the diffuser needs 1.2 metres of clear space above it, and it will not work well behind furniture, under shelves, near curtains or in a hallway.
A sudden change in behaviour can have a medical cause, so see a vet if your cat starts spraying or hiding out of the blue.
