The Senz Original is a full-size storm umbrella with a lopsided canopy that turns itself into the wind instead of flipping inside out, and Senz rates it for winds up to 100km/h. It weighs 440g and has an 87 x 90cm canopy. On 4 October 2026 Amazon UK listed the Passion Red version at £73.54 with free delivery, shipped from Amazon US as an import, with two left. Senz's own shop listed the same umbrella at £60, in stock and shipped from the Netherlands.

A normal umbrella is symmetrical, so a gust from the side catches the canopy and folds it backwards. The Senz Original is longer at the back than at the front. When the wind blows, it pushes the long tail behind you and the short front edge points into the wind, the way a weather vane settles.
Senz describes the idea as using the wind rather than fighting it: "Instead of resisting the wind, we use its force to our advantage." Once it has settled, you can hold it with one hand, and the canopy stays low over your head instead of lifting.
Senz was started by three friends at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, who were fed up with umbrellas that turned inside out and ended up in the bin. They developed the first Senz storm umbrella in 2006. The Original is that first design, and the brand now makes foldable, automatic and larger stick versions around the same shape.
The shaft is aluminium and the ribs are Senz's patented fibreglass, which flexes in a gust rather than snapping. The canopy is pongee, a polyester fabric that Senz says dries quickly and blocks more than 98% of UV, rated UPF 50+.
The tips of the ribs carry rounded caps Senz calls "eyesavers", so the points are less likely to catch someone in the face on a crowded pavement. The handle is soft foam with a wrist strap, and it comes in a sleeve with a shoulder strap.
Our best commuter backpacks UK guide covers the other half of a wet walk to work.
It does not fold. At 79cm long it is a stick umbrella, so it will not go in a bag. Senz makes Mini and Micro foldable versions on the same principle if you need one that packs away.
This listing is an import. The Passion Red Original on Amazon UK ships from Amazon US, and on 4 October 2026 delivery was quoted at 20 October to 11 November, so order early if you need it before the weather turns. Amazon notes that US imports can differ from local products. Senz sells the same Passion Red Original for £60 on its own shop, which ships from the Netherlands and shows the delivery charge in the basket before you pay.
The Amazon rating is middling. This listing showed 3.6 out of 5 from only 27 ratings, which is too few to say much either way, but it is lower than you might expect at the price.
It is dear for an umbrella. You are paying for the shape and the frame, and a £15 umbrella will keep you just as dry on a still day.
Amazon UK lists the Senz Original in Passion Red at £73.54, along with other colours from third-party sellers at different prices. Senz sells it direct for £60, plus delivery from the Netherlands, and shows the full specification on its Senz Original product page.
For a commuter who wants a matching bottle, the Ocean Bottle is a leak-proof steel bottle that goes in a work bag.

Hold it normally and let it settle. The long side swings behind you and the short front edge points into the wind, so you do not need to steer it.
No. It is a 79cm stick umbrella. Senz makes Mini and Micro foldable models with the same shape for bags.
Two years on the Original, according to Senz.
