Best audiobooks: every monthly edition in one place
Every month I pick the best audiobooks coming out in the UK, then check the narrator, the runtime and the price before ranking them. The newest edition sits at the top, and every earlier month follows underneath.

A new edition lands at the start of each month. Each one names the narrator and the runtime, and dates every price to the day I checked it.
Ten of the best audiobooks, counted down to a 40-hour China Miéville
The Rouse runs to 40 hours and 43 minutes, so it takes the top spot. Meanwhile Marlon James, Richard Osman and Caitlin Moran fill out the ten. There is also a chart of what one credit buys per hour.
Ten of the best audiobooks, counted down to Robert Harris's Agrippa
Simon Russell Beale reads most of Harris's return to Rome. Meanwhile Toni Collette plays Miss Marple, and Rachel Cusk reads her own novel.
Ten listens, building to Russell Tovey's Starlings
Tovey's fiction debut is an Audible Original in Dolby Atmos, with Andrew Scott and George MacKay as the two brothers. In addition, the finale of Colson Whitehead's Harlem trilogy makes the list.
Fifteen of the best audiobooks, led by Maggie O'Farrell's Land
Dane Whyte O'Hara narrates the lead pick. Also in June, Barack Obama and Malcolm Gladwell talk history in Reconstruction. Caroline Kepnes's Joe Goldberg prequel, You First, is there as well.
Fourteen listens, led by Patrick Radden Keefe's London Falling
Lena Dunham's Famesick and TJ Klune's We Burned So Bright join it. Finally, Mexodus, a full-cast musical history, is the wildcard.
Seven listens, topped by Tiffany Crum's This Story Might Save Your Life
Christina Applegate's You with the Sad Eyes comes in second, and George Saunders' Vigil closes the list. On top of that, Yesteryear gets flagged as one to watch.

This is where the series started. For example, Viola Davis narrates Judge Stone, the thriller she wrote with James Patterson. The Count of Monte Cristo is the bonus pick.

How I pick the best audiobooks each month
I start from the UK release schedule for the month ahead. Then I check every title against its Amazon UK audiobook listing, because a book that is out in the US but not here is no use to anyone reading this. As a result, a title with no UK listing does not make the cut.
After that, I look at what the recording adds. An author reading their own memoir, a full cast or a narrator who has already nailed a series all push a title up the list. Runtime matters too, since one credit buys eight hours of one book and forty of another.
Finally, every price carries the date I checked it. Audiobook prices move a lot, so treat an older edition's prices as a record of that month rather than today's deal.
Listening is not a niche habit any more, either. According to the Publishers Association, UK digital audiobook sales reached £255 million in 2025, up 10% on the year before.

What are the best audiobooks to listen to right now?
The newest edition at the top of this page is the current list. In September 2026 that means China Miéville's The Rouse at number one, with nine more UK releases counted down before it.
How often does a new edition come out?
Once a month, usually near the start of the month. The October 2026 edition is due on 5 October, and its card will go straight to the top of this page.
Are the prices in older editions still right?
Probably not, because Amazon UK changes audiobook prices often. Each edition dates its prices to the day I checked them. So always check the listing before you buy.
Do I need an Audible membership to buy these?
No. Each title links to its Amazon UK audiobook listing, where you can pay for it outright. Members can use a credit instead, and my Audible UK page covers the plans.
Is an Audible credit better value than paying cash?
It depends on the length of the book. In September 2026 I worked a credit out at £4.92, which bought 12p an hour on The Rouse but 60p an hour on How to Be Hopeful. In other words, long books are where a credit earns its keep.
