Apple's Welcome Home event: what it means for a UK smart home
The Apple Welcome Home event brought a screen for the home, a new Apple TV, a new HomePod mini and Apple's first range of own-brand cameras, built with LG. Pre-orders opened today. Below is what each one costs in the UK, when it arrives, what it needs, and what I would think about before ordering, with every price and date read off Apple's UK store on 13 October 2026.

Section 01 / Display
Apple HomeView, ยฃ299
The headline product of the Apple Welcome Home event: a 7-inch screen for the Home app that you mostly talk to.
HomeView runs on an A18 chip with Siri AI, the rebuilt Siri, and it comes in two versions at the same ยฃ299. The countertop model sits on a domed speaker base and tilts on a steel hinge, in silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. The wall model is 9.8mm thin, in silver and space grey. However, the wall model needs a mount from Schneider Home, from ยฃ54.95, plus a cable and a 20W power adapter, which Apple sells separately.
It recognises up to six people by their face and shows each one their own calendar, messages and reminders. It also makes FaceTime calls, shows up to nine camera feeds at once and turns a web recipe into step-by-step instructions. Pre-orders are open now, and Apple says it arrives from Friday 13 November. Section 02 / Streaming
Apple TV 4K, ยฃ299
The first new Apple TV box since 2022, with a big jump in price.
The new Apple TV 4K has an A19 chip, three far-field microphones so you can talk to Siri without picking up the remote, Wi-Fi 7 and an AV1 decoder. The Siri Remote now works with Find My. There is one model, with 128GB and Ethernet, at ยฃ299. On 12 October the 2022 model cost ยฃ199 or ยฃ249, so the way in is now ยฃ100 dearer.
Siri AI also reaches older boxes. Apple says it runs, as a beta in tvOS 27.2, on the Apple TV 4K from the second generation onwards. My Apple TV 4K page has the full comparison with the old model.
Section 03 / Speaker
HomePod mini 2, ยฃ149
The first new HomePod mini since 2020, in pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
The HomePod mini 2 has the S10 chip and a new trick called Sound Glow, where the top lights up and pulses with the music in colours taken from the album art. Four of them now make a surround sound system with the new Apple TV 4K. It also works as a speaker for a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later.
Siri AI does not arrive with it, though. Apple says it comes to the HomePod mini 2 in a future software update. It costs ยฃ149, ยฃ20 more than the 2020 model, and arrives from Friday 30 October. More on my HomePod mini 2 page.
Section 04 / Security
Apple Home Collection: the LG cameras
Apple's first range of recommended accessories, designed with LG and Schneider Electric and set up with one tap of an iPhone.
Four LG products have UK prices on Apple's UK store, all in Essence Silver or Essence Graphite unless noted:
- LG Indoor Cam Plug-in, ยฃ179.95, in Essence White. It tilts up to watch the room when everyone is out and tilts down to stop when the first person gets home.
- LG Video Doorbell Wired, ยฃ229.95, with a 2.5K front camera and a second camera pointing down at parcels. It runs off existing 16 to 24V doorbell wiring.
- LG Outdoor Cam Plug-in, ยฃ279.95, with colour night vision.
- LG Floodlight Cam, ยฃ349.95, with a 1,780-lumen floodlight and a siren you set off from the Home app.
The Indoor Cam is my favourite of the four. I love that the white one tilts itself down when it is not watching. It is a lovely product.
All four show "Coming later" on Apple's store. Apple says the collection arrives from December, with some accessories in early 2027. LG's Smart Deadbolt Lock and the LG and Schneider thermostats were announced, but Apple has given them no UK price yet. You can read the full line-up in Apple's Home Collection announcement.
Section 05 / Requirements
What the new kit needs
- An iPhone or iPad. Every product sets up from one, and the LG accessories pair over NFC from an iPhone on the latest software.
- An Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad for Siri AI. On the Apple TV and HomePod mini 2, the owner of the home in the Home app needs one with Siri AI turned on.
- iCloud+ for camera history. The 50GB plan covers one camera, 200GB covers up to five and 2TB covers as many as you like, with 10 days of event history. I am on an Apple One family plan with 2TB of iCloud storage, so that part is already paid for in my house.
- English. Siri AI on all of it launches in English only.
- The UK, not the EU. Apple says HomeView is not on sale in the European Union, because Siri AI is not available in iOS there yet.
Section 06 / Compatibility
What it works with
The three Apple products from the Apple Welcome Home event, HomeView, the Apple TV and the HomePod mini 2, all work as Home hubs with Thread, and they control Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories. So a Matter thermostat or smart plug you already own should show up on HomeView alongside the new LG cameras. Section 07 / The gaps
What the Apple Welcome Home event did not bring
First, there was no new full-size HomePod. My home runs on first-generation HomePods, and I was hoping Apple would bring back that sound in a new speaker. That did not happen today.
Second, Siri AI is still uneven. On the HomePod mini 2 it is not there at launch, and on the TV and HomeView Apple calls it a beta. My Siri AI review logged connection errors at least three times a day over three weeks on an iPhone.
Third, the prices went up. The Apple TV is ยฃ100 more at the bottom of the range, and the HomePod mini is ยฃ20 more. Finally, the lock and thermostats that would make the Home Collection a whole front-door system have no UK price.
Section 08 / Decide
Buy now, wait or skip
Of everything at the Apple Welcome Home event, the new Apple TV matters most to me. My own Apple TV is too old for Siri AI, so the new ยฃ299 box is the only way I get it on the TV. My first-generation HomePods are not part of the new surround setup either, which needs HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePods. So for me, the Apple TV and the HomePod mini 2 are the two that would change the most.
If your Apple TV is a 2021 model or newer, Siri AI comes to it anyway, so the new box mainly buys you the microphones, the speed and surround sound. If you want a HomePod mini mainly for Siri AI, it is worth reading the first reviews, because that part arrives later. HomeView is the new category here, and the first reviews in November will say whether Siri AI holds up on a screen that leans on it for nearly everything.

Do I need a HomePod or Apple TV as a home hub?
Not if you buy HomeView, because it works as a home hub itself. The LG cameras need a hub such as HomeView, a HomePod, a HomePod mini or an Apple TV 4K.
Does the new kit work with Matter?
Yes. HomeView controls Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, and the new devices have Thread built in.
Is the old Apple TV 4K still worth buying?
The 2021 and 2022 models get Siri AI as a beta in tvOS 27.2, so one bought second-hand still gets the new Siri. It misses the hands-free microphones and four-speaker surround sound.
