Huel UK: complete nutrition meals, shakes and snacks

Huel UK sells plant-based meals as powders, bottled shakes, hot pots and bars, each with protein, fibre and 26 vitamins and minerals. A bag of the original Huel Powder makes 17 meals of 400 kcal and costs £27 on a subscription, which is £1.59 a meal. The cheapest powder, Essential, works out at £1.07 a meal.

What Huel is
Huel stands for human fuel. Julian Hearn and nutritionist James Collier started the brand in 2015, and it is based in Tring, Hertfordshire. Every Huel product is vegan, and Huel says it now has more than four million customers.
The company holds B Corp certification. In March 2026, Danone announced it had agreed to buy Huel, in a deal reported at about €1 billion.

Huel sells everything on a Flexible Plan, which takes 10% off and lets you skip or cancel at any time, or as a one-off order.

Delivery is free on orders of £45 or more. So the per-meal prices above assume a basket of at least two bags of powder. A single bag on its own sits under the free delivery line.

- Powder: the original shake, now sold without a version number. One meal is two scoops, 100g and 400 kcal.
- Black Edition: 40g of protein per 400 kcal meal, for people who want more protein from a shake.
- Essential: the cheapest powder, with 20g of protein per meal and 22.5 meals per bag.
- Ready-to-drink: bottled shakes with 20g of protein, plus a Black Edition bottle with 35g.
- Hot & Savoury: instant meals you make with boiling water, from £19.60 a pack, or £2.80 a meal, with up to 25g of protein.
- Bars and Daily Greens: a protein bar with up to 15g of protein, and a greens powder at 23 kcal a serving.

Who Huel suits

- Anyone tracking calories or protein: every serving has fixed numbers on the label.
- Vegans: the whole range is plant-based.
Most people use Huel for one or two meals a day alongside ordinary food, rather than for everything they eat.
The limits
Huel costs more than simple home cooking. Our Huel vs real food comparison found a supermarket cheese sandwich lunch at about half the price of a shake per calorie.
The headline £1.59 a meal needs a subscription and a basket of £45 or more. Bottles cost about twice as much per meal as powder, at £3.17 each.
Taste and texture are personal. The unflavoured powder in particular is an acquired taste, so a mixed first order is the safer way to find a flavour you like.
