After more than a decade of waiting, Rockstar has finally locked a date to the calendar.
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on Thursday 19 November 2026, and it lands on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar confirmed the date and opened pre-orders through its official newswire, so this comes straight from the source rather than another leak.
Naturally, the date has slipped before. Rockstar pushed it back more than once to give the team more time to polish the game. The Ultimate Edition bundles the base game with a stack of extra in-game content that unlocks as you play through the story. Think exclusive vehicles like the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and the '95 Grotti Cheetah, two vehicle mod shops, extra weapons, clothing stores, a hair salon and the Electric Fang Tattoo parlour with over 50 signature designs. Rockstar bills it as a version that “amplifies the deepest and most immersive GTA experience yet.”
Here is the honest catch, though. If you buy Standard now, you can add all of this later as a separate upgrade, so Ultimate mainly suits players who want the full lot from day one.

Where to place a GTA 6 pre-order in the UK
You have two routes: buy digitally for a guaranteed launch-day download, or grab a physical case for the shelf.
Digital pre-orders
For the smoothest path, order directly from the platform holders. Digital copies cannot physically sell out, so a launch-day download is effectively guaranteed. The PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store both list the Standard and Ultimate editions. Better still, digital buyers can preload the game from 12 November 2026, so it is installed and ready a full week before launch. Physical box pre-orders
Prefer something on the shelf? Amazon UK is taking box pre-orders, and other UK retailers have listings too, including Very, Argos, Currys, ShopTo (PS5 or Xbox) and The Game Collection. One honest warning before you buy: the physical box contains a download code rather than a disc, so it is really a collector's case that still needs an install. Plenty of fans were not thrilled about that, so it is worth knowing before you pay for the shelf appeal.

How to secure your copy in four steps
A quick checklist so nothing trips you up between now and launch night.
Step 1: Pick your platform
Decide between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S first, because your pre-order is tied to that ecosystem. There is no PC version yet, so those are your two options.
Step 2: Choose Standard or Ultimate
Next, settle on the edition. Go Standard at £69.99 for the full game, or step up to Ultimate at £89.99 if you want the extra story content. Either way, you are getting the complete story.
Step 3: Order before 20 November for the bonus
Then lock it in early. As long as you pre-order before 20 November 2026, the Vintage Vice City Pack is included on both editions. It is the one genuine reason not to leave this to the last minute.
Step 4: Preload on 12 November
Finally, if you bought digitally, preload the game on 12 November 2026. That way it is downloaded and waiting, and you can start playing the moment the servers flip on 19 November.

Is a GTA 6 pre-order actually worth it?
A balanced look, because a pre-order is not automatically the right move for everyone.
Let us be straight about it. Digital copies cannot sell out, so if you are buying from the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store, there is no stock panic and no rush beyond the bonus deadline. In that case, the only reason to pre-order now rather than later is the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Physical is a different story. Boxed copies and, more importantly, the consoles themselves could get scarce as launch nears, with early demand already reported to be enormous. Therefore, if you want a case on the shelf or you are buying a console to play it on, moving sooner makes sense. On price, meanwhile, £69.99 and £89.99 mark a new high for a mainstream game, so it is fair to weigh that up rather than pre-order on autopilot.
