Black Friday 2026: the dates, the guesswork and what to wait for

Black Friday 2026 UK lands on Friday 27 November, and Cyber Monday follows on 30 November. No major UK retailer has announced its own start date yet. So any start date you see on a deals site is a guess. Last year's sales show the likely shape of this year's, and a year of price tracking shows which purchases are worth holding off for.

Which? tracked 175 products through the 2024 sales and found none at their cheapest price of the year on Black Friday itself. So checking a price against its history matters more than catching the first day of the sale.

Section 01 / The calendar

Black Friday 2026 UK dates

Three fixed days, all set by the American calendar.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, which always falls on the fourth Thursday of November. The US Office of Personnel Management lists Thanksgiving 2026 as Thursday 26 November. As a result, the dates below are fixed, whatever the shops decide to do around them.

DayDateWhat happens
Thanksgiving (US)Thursday 26 November 2026Not a UK holiday, but it fixes the rest of the calendar
Black FridayFriday 27 November 2026The headline day, usually in the middle of a longer sale
Cyber MondayMonday 30 November 2026Often the last day of the main sale period

In practice, though, the UK sales run for weeks rather than a day. Which? defined the 2024 "Black Friday sales period" as 15 November to 12 December. That is almost four weeks of sales around a single Friday.

Section 02 / The guesswork

When do the Black Friday 2026 UK sales start?

Nobody big has said yet, and Argos started its sale on 31 October last year.

Amazon, Argos, Currys and John Lewis have not announced a 2026 start date on their own sites. Any site promising that "Amazon Black Friday starts on 19 November" is working from last year's pattern. Last year's dates still help you plan, as long as you treat them as history.

Amazon's last three Black Friday Weeks

Amazon UK announces its Black Friday Week in a press release each November. These are the last three, straight from its press centre:

YearAnnouncedSale ran
20232 November17 to 27 November
20248 November21 November to 2 December
202513 November20 November to 1 December

Each time, the sale started on a Thursday or Friday, a week before Black Friday, and ran through Cyber Monday. If 2026 follows suit, Amazon would announce in early to mid November. However, Amazon has used different dates every year, so treat this as a likely window only.

Argos, Currys and John Lewis

Argos started earlier than Amazon last year. Its Black Friday Price Guarantee terms covered 31 October to 2 December 2025. Argos promised that badged products bought then would not get cheaper before Christmas Day. If one did, it sent an e-gift card for the difference.

Currys, meanwhile, confirms Black Friday as 27 November on its 2026 Black Friday page, and says only that early deals start "early in November". It also runs a Price Promise. Buy an eligible item in the run-up, and Currys refunds the difference if it cuts the price on Black Friday.

Similarly, John Lewis has not dated its 2026 event. It told Which? last year that its Never Knowingly Undersold promise matches prices with 25 leading retailers.

I checked each retailer's own announcements on 15 October 2026.

Section 03 / Real or fake

How to spot a fake deal in the Black Friday 2026 UK sales

Most "deals" were matched or beaten at another point in the year.

Which? tested this in November 2025. Its researchers tracked 175 home, tech and health appliances at eight retailers for a full year around the 2024 sale. Overall, 83% were the same price or cheaper at least once outside the four-week Black Friday period. In other words, eight in ten "deals" were not the best price of the year. The Which? press release breaks it down by shop:

RetailerBlack Friday deals matched or beaten at other times
John Lewis94%
Very93%
Amazon88%
AO85%
Currys84%
Argos79%
Richer Sounds55%

For instance, a 2024 Samsung 55-inch QN90 TV cost ยฃ1,039 at AO on Black Friday. Afterwards it was cheaper on 134 days of the following six months, and it bottomed out at ยฃ759. Likewise, a Dyson V11 Extra at Very cost ยฃ349 in the sale. It had been the same price on 29 days before Black Friday and 41 days after.

"For the majority of shoppers, Black Friday is a false economy."Reena Sewraz, Retail Editor, Which?

The price that climbs before the sale

Amazon's own Kindle shows the same pattern. The Kindle Paperwhite 16GB with ads costs ยฃ184.99 at Amazon UK. That is the highest price camelcamelcamel has recorded for it since October 2024, and Amazon has charged it since 3 October. Back in June, during Prime Day, the same Kindle fell to ยฃ113.99.

If it reappears at ยฃ149.99 in November, the label will say 19% off. Yet that "deal" would still be ยฃ36 more than the June price. My Kindle Paperwhite page has all four versions and their prices.

I checked the Kindle prices on Amazon and camelcamelcamel on 15 October 2026.

Three checks before you buy

First, look up the price history. Which? names PriceRunner for most shops and camelcamelcamel for Amazon. Next, check the same model at two other retailers, because a "was" price only tells you about one shop. Finally, ignore countdown timers and the recommended retail price (RRP) printed next to a deal. At Boots, Which? found an Oral-B toothbrush sold as "save ยฃ25, RRP ยฃ50". Yet it was the same price or cheaper for more than 96% of the year.

Misleading price claims can also break consumer law. The Competition and Markets Authority has warned online shops about misleading countdown timers and price reduction claims. It can also fine a business up to 10% of its global turnover for breaking consumer law. Those powers came with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, and the CMA can use them without going to court first.

Section 04 / Hold off

What is worth waiting for on Black Friday 2026 UK

Amazon's own devices, big electricals under a price guarantee, and smart heating.

Amazon's own devices

Amazon named Echo, Kindle, Ring, Blink, Fire TV and eero in its 2025 Black Friday Week announcement. Amazon makes all six itself, so it controls their prices. Even so, the Kindle example above shows why you should check the price history rather than the percentage. If you want a smart speaker, my smart speakers guide compares the Echo range against Apple and Google.

Big electricals bought under a price guarantee

Need a TV, a vacuum or a washing machine before Christmas? Buy it inside a price guarantee rather than gambling on the day. Argos's 2025 guarantee ran to 25 December, and Currys refunds the difference if it cuts the price again on Black Friday. In both cases you can buy early in the run-up and still get the lower price later, as long as you claim it.

Smart heating, before the cold sets in

Currys tips smart thermostats as one of the popular buys this Black Friday. A thermostat also saves more the earlier in winter you fit it. My smart heating controls guide gives the current price of each, so you have a figure to compare a Black Friday price against.

Section 05 / Buy now

What not to wait for in the Black Friday 2026 UK sales

Which? found most Black Friday prices matched or beaten at another point in the year.

Anything you need now

If your fridge has died, buy the fridge. Which? found no product at its cheapest price of the year on Black Friday 2024. So six weeks without a fridge is a poor trade for a discount that may not exist.

Gifts from small makers

For presents from independent makers and museum shops, the date that matters is the last posting day before Christmas, not Black Friday. My Christmas gifts guide has the posting and returns rules alongside 21 gifts. For a tighter budget, my gifts under ยฃ50 keeps to a hard ยฃ25 to ยฃ50 band.

Refurbished tech

Refurbished phones, laptops and tablets sell below the new price all year round. My refurbished tech guide explains the grades and battery promises by category. If Back Market is where you land, my Back Market discount code page has the current new-customer offer.

Broadband and SIM contracts

A Black Friday broadband deal is still a contract, usually for 24 months, often with a fixed price rise each spring. Therefore, a cheaper first month matters far less than the total. My cheap broadband deals guide prices ten providers over the whole contract, and my SIM-only deals guide does the same job for mobile.

Section 06 / On top

Cashback on what you buy

Money back on what you spend, on top of any sale price.

Cashback sites pay you a share of what you spend at partner shops, and that includes the Black Friday 2026 UK sales. With TopCashback, new members who join through my link get a ยฃ10 bonus once they have earned their first ยฃ10 in confirmed cashback. The details and the current offer are on my TopCashback referral code page.

Alternatively, Airtime Rewards links to your bank cards. Spending at more than 200 partner retailers, Argos among them, then earns credit off your mobile bill. My Airtime Rewards page has the joining code and which networks it works with.

Not sure which cashback site to join? My cashback sites compared guide puts TopCashback, Quidco, Airtime Rewards and the rest side by side, so you can pick one before the sales start.

Section 07 / Your rights

If a Black Friday buy goes wrong

Sale goods bought online come with the same rights as anything else.

Buying online in the UK gives you 14 days from delivery to cancel, without giving a reason. You then have another 14 days to send the item back. After that, the seller must refund you within 14 days of getting it back. The rules are on GOV.UK. A shop's own returns policy can be longer, so check it before you pay.

Black Friday 2026 UK: FAQs

When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?

Black Friday 2026 is on Friday 27 November, the day after US Thanksgiving on 26 November. Cyber Monday follows on Monday 30 November. Retailers run their sales for weeks around those dates, and Which? counted the 2024 sales period as four weeks long.

When does Amazon's Black Friday 2026 sale start?

Amazon has not announced it yet. For comparison, its 2025 Black Friday Week ran from 20 November to 1 December, and Amazon announced it on 13 November 2025. The 2024 event ran from 21 November to 2 December.

Are Black Friday deals actually cheaper?

Usually not by as much as they claim. Which? tracked 175 products through the 2024 sales. Of those, 83% were matched or beaten at another point in the year. None hit their lowest price on Black Friday itself. Check the price history before you buy.

Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?

Not in general. In the UK, Cyber Monday usually sits at the end of the same sale rather than being a separate event. Amazon's 2025 Black Friday Week, for example, ran through Cyber Monday on 1 December.

Which retailers offer a Black Friday price guarantee?

In 2025, Argos guaranteed that badged products bought between 31 October and 2 December would not drop lower before 25 December. Currys says it refunds the difference if it cuts the price of an eligible item further on Black Friday. Both schemes need checking for 2026 once the terms are published.

Can I return something I bought on Black Friday?

Yes, if you bought it online. You have 14 days from delivery to cancel and a further 14 days to return it, under UK consumer law. In a shop, returns depend on the retailer's own policy unless the item is faulty.

More things like this:

  • Cut household bills UK - where the regular monthly savings are, so the sale money goes further.
  • Gifts for techies - my collection of gadgets and tools for the person who builds things.
  • Echo Studio - Amazon's biggest smart speaker, with the price to check against in the sales.
  • JamDoughnut referral code - cashback on gift cards, including Apple, for buying tech without waiting for a sale.
  • Chip referral code - an app that puts money aside for you, so the next big purchase is already saved for.
