If Sprive is completely free to use, how does Sprive make money? It's a fair question, and one worth asking before trusting an app with your bank account and mortgage details. The short answer: Sprive earns from remortgage commissions and a share of gift card cashback revenue. The longer answer is worth reading, because understanding the business model helps you judge whether the app's incentives actually line up with yours.

Sprive Mortgage App Review UK: Honest Verdict After Five Years (2026)

Last updated: 24 October 2026

By Stiv · Design, technology and personal finance

This is an opinion piece. Views expressed are the author's own and do not constitute professional advice.

I've used Sprive since October 2021, first on my Nationwide mortgage and, since a June 2026 remortgage, on a Halifax one. The auto-save started at £100 a month and runs at £250 now. By 13 October 2026 I had overpaid £10,237.41 through the app, mostly from the auto-save. This review is based on that daily use.

If you're looking for a realistic way to make progress on your mortgage without committing to rigid overpayments, the Sprive mortgage app is one of the better-known tools in the UK. Sprive has also pushed further into the mainstream in 2026, with a TV advert running on Channel 4 under the line "Shop away your mortgage. Brick by brick." After five years, my Sprive mortgage app review verdict is that it suits people who mean to overpay but never get round to it, and adds little if you already run a standing order. If you're mainly concerned about security and FCA regulation, we cover that separately: Is Sprive safe?

Is Sprive Safe? UK Security, FCA Status and Your Money (2026)

Last updated: 24 October 2026

By Stiv · Design, technology and personal finance

I've had Sprive connected to my bank account and mortgage since October 2021, Nationwide first and Halifax since a June 2026 remortgage. Everything in this guide is informed by using the app with my own money since then.

Connecting a new app to your bank account and mortgage feels risky. I had the same reaction the first time I looked at Sprive: "wait, you want access to my bank so you can pay off my mortgage faster?" It sounded clever but also slightly terrifying. So before trusting it with my own accounts, I checked whether Sprive is safe: who regulates it, how Open Banking protects your bank login, and where your money is actually held. Here's what I found.

How to Pay Off Your Mortgage Faster (UK): 7 Moves That Save Thousands

Last updated: 13 October 2026

By Stiv · Design, technology and personal finance

This is the strategy I follow myself. I've been overpaying my mortgage since October 2021, with Nationwide and now Halifax, using a combination of Sprive's auto-save feature and tracking the impact over time. This is based on that real use.

If you want to pay off your mortgage faster in the UK, you don't need extreme budgeting or a "one weird trick". You need a clear plan that focuses on the biggest levers: interest rate, consistency, and avoiding fees. This page is the master strategy guide. It shows you what to do, in what order, and what to check so you don't accidentally trigger Early Repayment Charges.
