Not ready to spend two grand?
A refurbished iPhone 17 Pro started at £832 on Back Market when I checked. Also, my referral page has the code for £10 off a first order of £100 or more.

The iPhone Duo pre-order opens at 1:00pm UK time on Friday 16 October, on apple.com/uk and in the Apple Store app. Since Monday 12 October, though, Apple's UK store has let you choose your Duo and save it, ready for checkout on Friday. Prices start at £1,999 for 256GB and run to £3,199 for 2TB. The first phones then reach buyers from Friday 23 October.
Apple's first foldable iPhone is also its most expensive. So before 1pm on Friday, it helps to have decided which storage tier you want and whether to add the case or the folio. It also helps to know what your old phone fetches as a trade-in, and whether your network can give you an eSIM, because the Duo has no SIM tray.

Section 01 / The day
When and where the iPhone Duo pre-order opens
1:00pm UK time on Friday 16 October, with the UK in Apple's first wave of countries.
Apple's iPhone Duo page puts it in one line: "Pre-order from 1:00 pm on 16.10. Available from 23.10." In other words, that 1:00pm is UK time. Similarly, Apple's launch announcement gives the start as 5am Pacific, which is the same moment. The UK is in that first wave of more than 70 countries. Another 28 countries follow later, on 30 October.
Where you can order it
The iPhone Duo pre-order runs on apple.com/uk and in the Apple Store app. Apple says you can also see the Duo in person at every Apple Store. From 23 October, Apple says "selected network providers and retailers" will sell it too, but it has not named them. So if you would rather buy on a network contract, 23 October is the earliest date. Until then, your network's own site is the place to watch.
The iPhone Duo Case and the Folio with Kickstand go on sale at the same moment, 1:00pm on 16 October. As a result, both can go in the same basket as the phone.
Saving your Duo before Friday
Apple's iPhone Duo buy page switched to its get-ready stage on Monday. It now says: "Choose your new iPhone today, then speed through checkout when pre-order starts at 1:00 pm on 16.10." The Save for later button keeps your colour, storage and AppleCare choices in your Apple account. If you set the phone up before Friday, checkout at 1pm then comes down to payment and delivery. Apple also shows the delivery date for your postcode at checkout rather than on the product page. That checkout screen is therefore the first place you will see whether 23 October is still on offer.
However, Apple has not said which configuration it expects to sell out first. Its own FAQ says only that stock is subject to availability by retailer. Apple announced the Duo on 9 September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, and my Surprise and Shine round-up covers the rest of that evening.
Section 02 / The money
iPhone Duo prices, plus the case and the folio
Four storage tiers in two colours, and two Apple accessories made for the fold.
I checked every price and date here on apple.com/uk on 12 October 2026. Also, each price below opens that exact configuration or accessory in Apple's UK store.
| What | Price | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo 256GB | £1,999 | Star White or Night Sky |
| iPhone Duo 512GB | £2,199 | £200 more than 256GB |
| iPhone Duo 1TB | £2,599 | £400 more than 512GB |
| iPhone Duo 2TB | £3,199 | £600 more than 1TB |
| iPhone Duo Case | £79 | Navy blue or sand |
| iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand | £129 | Navy blue or taupe |
In fact, the 2TB Duo costs £1,200 more than the 256GB one. That gap alone is more than an iPhone 18 Pro at £1,199. Unless you shoot a lot of video and keep it on the phone, 256GB or 512GB covers most people. After that, iCloud can carry the rest.
In particular, the folio is the one to choose if you plan to watch things on the Duo. Apple says it has "a retractable kickstand for a range of helpful viewing angles". On the other hand, the £79 case is lighter and only protects the phone. Either way, a 256GB Duo with the folio comes to £2,128.
Besides the phone, two more costs sit outside the box. First, there is no power adapter in it, only a USB-C cable. Apple's figure of 50 per cent charge in around 20 minutes needs a USB-C Power Delivery adapter and a 60W-capable cable. In fact, Apple ran its own test on its 40W Dynamic Power Adapter. Second, Apple offers AppleCare+ at checkout, and it costs extra.
Section 03 / The fold
What the fold gets you over an iPhone 18 Pro
The same A20 Pro chip, £800 more, a much bigger screen and a much shorter zoom.
Both phones run Apple's A20 Pro chip, so the extra money goes on the screen and the hinge rather than on speed. Meanwhile, my iPhone 18 Pro UK price page has the full Pro price list. For ordering, though, these are the differences that matter, taken from Apple's own comparison.
| iPhone Duo | iPhone 18 Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| From | £1,999 | £1,199 |
| Screen | 7.6-inch inside, 5.4-inch outside | 6.3-inch or 6.9-inch |
| Rear cameras | Two 48MP: Main and Ultra Wide | Three 48MP: Main, Ultra Wide and Telephoto |
| Optical-quality zoom | Up to 2x | Up to 8x |
| Unlocking | Touch ID in the side button | Face ID |
| Action button | No | Yes |
| Frame | Titanium | Aluminium |
Camera features only the Duo has
In return, the Duo gets four camera features no other iPhone has, all built around the outer screen. For example, Smart Take fires the shutter once everyone in the shot is ready. Duo Preview shows the people you are photographing a live preview, so they can fix their pose. Similarly, Kid Cue plays animations on the outer screen to draw a child's eyes to the lens. Finally, Duo FaceTime lets the people next to you join a call on the outer display.
Still, the zoom is the gap I would think hardest about. At 2x, anything across a room or a pitch stays small in the frame, while the 18 Pro reaches 8x. If photos are the main reason you upgrade, then my iPhone 18 Pro review covers that camera in detail.
When closed, the Duo measures 117.8 by 84.1mm, which Apple compares to a passport. It is also 11.3mm thick folded and weighs 254 grams, about the same as a 250g block of butter. The exact figures are on Apple's technical specifications page.
Section 04 / The cheaper routes
How to pay less than £1,999
A trade-in can take up to £855 off an iPhone Duo pre-order, and the cheapest routes skip the fold altogether.
Apple Trade In
Apple offers between £25 and £855 for an old iPhone against the Duo. On its UK trade-in page the same day, an iPhone 17 Pro Max topped the list at £855. After that came £725 for an iPhone 17 Pro, £515 for an iPhone Air and £485 for an iPhone 17. Those are best-case figures for a phone in perfect condition, so most quotes come in lower. Even at the ceiling, a 17 Pro Max brings a 256GB Duo down to £1,144.
Network contracts
Networks only get the Duo from 23 October, and none had published a price when I checked. A contract spreads the cost, but it does not lower it. Before you sign, add up the total over the whole term and compare it with Apple's price.
Skipping the fold
If £1,999 is the problem rather than the screen size, the cheapest new iPhone Apple sells is the iPhone 17e at £699. Refurbished goes further still on the Pro models. For instance, on Back Market a refurbished iPhone 17 Pro started at £832 and a 17 Pro Max at £929 on the same day. My guide to refurbished phones in the UK explains the grades. Then my Back Market deals page has the picks I would start with.
Keeping the phone you have
Finally, the cheapest option of all is the phone already in your pocket on a cheaper plan. For that, my SIM-only deals comparison puts Honest Mobile, SMARTY and giffgaff side by side, with no new handset involved.
Section 05 / The SIM
The iPhone Duo is eSIM-only, so check your network first
There is no SIM tray. Your plan has to arrive as an eSIM, a digital SIM your network sends to the phone.
Apple describes the Duo as "eSIM-only worldwide". In practice, the plastic SIM in your current phone cannot move across. Instead, your network issues an eSIM for the new phone. Depending on the network, that happens during setup or through a QR code you scan.
Sort this out before your iPhone Duo pre-order arrives rather than after. For example, giffgaff only runs eSIM switching between 4:30am and 9:30pm. Its help page on switching to an eSIM also says activation usually takes under an hour but can take up to 24 hours at busy times. Meanwhile SMARTY emails a QR code and a separate four-digit confirmation code, according to its eSIM page.
Both networks therefore work with the Duo. My giffgaff plans guide and SMARTY review cover what each costs. If you join giffgaff, my referral page gets you £5 of bonus credit. Similarly, my SMARTY refer a friend page has the current voucher and its three-month qualifying period.
An eSIM-only phone also changes how you buy data abroad, because a travel eSIM sits alongside your UK one. My guide to travel eSIMs covers that side.
Section 06 / The honest bit
Who should skip the iPhone Duo pre-order
Five kinds of buyer who would do better waiting, or buying a different iPhone.
People who buy a phone for the camera. The Duo stops at 2x optical-quality zoom because it has no telephoto lens. The £1,199 iPhone 18 Pro, however, has one and reaches 8x.
People who keep a phone for four or five years. This is Apple's first folding hinge and first folding screen. Apple says the hinge uses more than 100 components and the inner display has a scratch-resistant coating. Even so, nobody outside Apple has carried one for a year yet. Waiting, therefore, means buying with a year of owner reports to read.
People who want to write on it. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is "coming later this year", according to Apple, so it will not work on the day the phone arrives.
People whose network has no eSIM. Without one, the Duo cannot connect to your plan, so you would have to switch network first. That adds a step to a £1,999 purchase, and possibly an exit fee on your current contract.
People stretching to afford it. £1,999 is £800 more than an iPhone 18 Pro and £1,300 more than an iPhone 17e. Both of those, or a refurbished 17 Pro, make calls, take photos and run the same apps for far less.
Every iPhone guide on the site, from refurbished buying to SIM-only plans, sits on my iPhone guides hub.
Buying from Apple? Get 2% back first
I buy Apple Gift Cards in the JamDoughnut app, then spend them with Apple. JamDoughnut paid 2% instant cashback on Apple Gift Cards when I checked on 13 October 2026. The card covers hardware from an Apple Store or apple.com, plus App Store purchases and iCloud+. I bought my Mac this way. Apple takes up to eight gift cards per order, but not alongside PayPal or Apple financing.
Rates can change, so check the app before you buy. My JamDoughnut page uses a referral link.
iPhone Duo pre-order FAQs
When can I pre-order the iPhone Duo in the UK?

How much is the iPhone Duo in the UK?
£1,999 for 256GB, £2,199 for 512GB, £2,599 for 1TB and £3,199 for 2TB, when I checked Apple's UK store on 12 October 2026. The iPhone Duo Case costs £79 and the Folio with Kickstand £129.

No. Apple sells it eSIM-only worldwide, so your network has to issue you an eSIM. giffgaff and SMARTY both do.
When does the iPhone Duo arrive?
From Friday 23 October for the earliest orders. Apple shows a delivery date for your postcode at checkout, before you pay, so that is where to check yours.
Does the iPhone Duo have Face ID?
No. It uses Touch ID in the side button, which works whether the phone is open or closed. Apple says you can also unlock it with an Apple Watch.
Can I trade in my old iPhone against the iPhone Duo?
Yes. Apple Trade In offers between £25 and £855 for an iPhone, with the top figure for an iPhone 17 Pro Max in perfect condition. In practice, most quotes come in under the published ceiling.
Is the iPhone Duo worth it?
It suits someone who reads, works across two apps or watches video on the move, and would otherwise carry a phone and a small tablet. However, if photos matter most, the iPhone 18 Pro has the better camera for £800 less.
