What this page covers: The Chip savings app UK is an FCA-authorised savings and investment platform that lets you earn competitive interest, invest in a Stocks and Shares ISA, and enter a monthly prize draw, all from one app. This page explains how it works, what accounts are available, what the current rates look like, and what it costs. There's currently a £50 new-joiner bonus when you deposit £1,000 into an eligible account and hold it for 90 consecutive days; the code and full terms are on our Chip referral code page.
The Chip savings app UK is a wealth-building platform designed to make saving and investing feel almost effortless. It combines smart automation, competitive rates, and investment tools in a single app, available free on iOS and Android. Chip is not a bank. It's a trading name of Chip Financial Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA, FRN: 911255). Your savings are held with regulated banking partners such as ClearBank, and eligible deposits are protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £120,000.
With over 500,000 users in the UK, Chip has built a solid reputation as one of the more innovative savings platforms around. Whether you're building an emergency fund, saving for a house deposit, or starting to invest for the long term, there's an account designed to fit.
When you download Chip and connect your current account via Open Banking, the app analyses your income and spending habits. From there, it can automatically calculate how much you can safely put aside and move it into your chosen savings account. This is called the Autosave feature, and for people who find saving hard to stick to, it's really useful.
Autosave transfers cost 45p per save. Recurring deposits (which you set manually) are free. You can turn Autosave off at any time, and you can withdraw your money without penalty from most accounts. The app also lets you set savings goals and track your progress across all your accounts in one place.
Chip lists five savings accounts, four of them open to new customers. The right one depends on how often you need access to your money and what you're prioritising: a high rate, tax-free savings, or the chance to win a cash prize.
This is the most flexible option. New customers earn a boosted rate of 3.51% AER (variable tracker) for their first 12 months, made up of a 3.00% AER standard rate that tracks 0.79% under the Bank of England base rate plus a 0.51% AER boost. After 12 months, the rate reverts to the standard 3.00% AER. There are no limits on withdrawals and no penalties for taking money out. Rates are variable and track the Bank of England base rate. Always check the Chip website for the latest rate before opening an account.
The Easy Access Saver sits between the flexibility of the Instant Access account and the structure of a fixed-term deal. New customers earn a boosted rate of 3.81% AER (variable tracker) for 12 months, made up of a 3.50% AER standard rate that tracks 0.30% under the Bank of England base rate plus a 0.31% AER boost. The standard rate afterwards is 3.50% AER. You get three penalty-free withdrawals in any 12-month period. On the fourth, your rate drops by 2.10 percentage points for the rest of that period.
The Chip Cash ISA is closed to new customers, and the Smart Cash ISA below has replaced it. If you already hold one you can keep it, but you cannot open a new one. It's a fully flexible ISA, which means you can withdraw and redeposit without losing your ISA allowance in the same tax year. ISA transfers in can be requested and tracked inside the app.
The Smart Cash ISA is now Chip's cash ISA and it lets you save up to £20,000 a tax year with no tax on the interest. New customers earn 4.60% AER (variable tracker) for 12 months, made up of a 3.50% AER standard rate that tracks 0.30% under the Bank of England base rate plus a 1.10% AER boost, then 3.50% afterwards. Chip cut the underlying rate from 3.75% to 3.50% on 10 September 2026 and raised the boost to keep the 4.60% headline. Like the standard Cash ISA, it shelters interest from tax up to the £20,000 annual ISA allowance. Rates are variable, so check the live figure in the app before opening.
This one is a bit different. The Prize Savings Account doesn't pay interest. Instead, your deposits buy you entries into a monthly prize draw. Chip has paid out £2,462,172 in prizes across 166,038 wins and 44 grand prize winners. You can deposit between £10 and £85,000, and every £10 of your average monthly balance buys one entry. The September 2026 draw has one grand prize of £10,000, 7 of £500, 73 of £100, 180 of £20, 360 of £10 and 14,400 of £5, £100,000 in total. Quarterly draws have reached a £500,000 pool with a £250,000 grand prize, but the last one Chip published was March 2026. Because the account pays no interest, this is a gamble on the return rather than the capital: you can hold it for a year, win nothing, and lose ground to inflation. T&Cs and eligibility criteria apply.
Beyond savings, Chip also offers two investment account types, a Stocks and Shares ISA and a General Investment Account (GIA), plus a personal pension launched in September 2026. You can start investing from £1, and funds are managed by some of the biggest names in asset management, including BlackRock, Vanguard, Invesco, and HSBC.
If you want things simple, you can choose from three ready-made funds (Cautious, Balanced, or Adventurous) managed by BlackRock. Alternatively, you can build your own portfolio from a curated selection of over 40 funds. The Stocks and Shares ISA shelters your returns from income tax and capital gains tax, making it a sensible wrapper for long-term investing. The annual ISA allowance is £20,000 across all your ISAs combined.
When investing, your capital is at risk. Investment returns are not guaranteed and your money could go down as well as up. Tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in future. Chip does not provide financial advice.
Chip added a personal pension in September 2026, and pension transfers in are already live. It is a one-fund SIPP: you give Chip your target retirement age and it puts the money into the matching BlackRock LifePath fund, which shifts from shares towards bonds as that year gets closer. The fees are 0.18% a year to BlackRock for the fund plus a 0.45% a year Chip platform fee, both charged monthly, so 0.63% all in. Contributions get the usual 20% relief at source, so £800 paid in becomes £1,000, and higher-rate taxpayers claim the rest through Self Assessment. Two things to weigh before moving an old pension across. Chip does not offer drawdown yet, so to take money out at retirement you would transfer to a provider that does. And a transfer can lose safeguarded benefits such as a guaranteed annuity rate or protected tax-free cash, which is why Chip's own page tells you to check for those first. The pension is provided by Chip Financial (Investments) Ltd with Seccl Technology Limited as custodian, and FSCS investment protection of up to £85,000 covers a firm failing, not the fund falling. Read on Chip's own SIPP page on 10 September 2026.
Opening and holding savings accounts with Chip is free. The costs to know about are:
There are no account opening fees or monthly fees for savings accounts. The only charges you need to watch are the investment platform fees and the autosave transaction cost.

Chip savings accounts are free to open and hold. The ChipX subscription costs £5.99 every 28 days, or £65.05 a year if you pay annually, which works out at £4.99 per 28 days. It comes with a 28-day free trial. The standard investment plan charges 0.25% per year. There are no monthly fees for savings-only users, though Autosave transactions cost 45p each.
The Prize Savings Account doesn't pay interest. Instead, every £10 of your average monthly balance earns one entry into a monthly prize draw. Chip has paid out £2,462,172 in prizes to date across 166,038 wins. Deposits must be between £10 and £85,000, and your entries are worked out from your average balance across the calendar month, not from what you hold on any single day. Chip runs the draw monthly, and T&Cs and eligibility criteria apply.
