1Blocker ad blocker app

1Blocker: Safari Ad Blocker for iPhone, iPad and Mac

Last updated: 5 October 2026

The 1Blocker ad blocker plugs into Safari on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro and stops ads, trackers, cookie notices and chat pop-ups before a page loads. The filtering happens on your own device, and the app never sees the pages you visit. The indie team behind it has been making 1Blocker since 2015, and it does not take money from advertisers to let their ads through.

The download is free and the free version lets you switch on one blocking category. 1Blocker Premium is £2.99 a month, £14.99 a year or £39.99 once, and one purchase covers all your Apple devices. Those prices come from the UK App Store, checked on 5 October 2026.

It works in Safari only, so ads in Chrome, Firefox or inside other apps are not blocked.

What the 1Blocker ad blocker does

Safari lets an app hand it a list of rules, and Safari then refuses to load anything on that list. 1Blocker writes and updates those lists. It does not open, read or change the pages you visit, so it has no record of where you go.

Because Safari does the blocking itself, there is no proxy and no VPN running in the background. The developer says pages open two to five times faster on average with it switched on. The filter lists update from the cloud each week without you doing anything.

The four blocking categories

  • Block Ads: banners and other display ads, from a list of over 100,000 rules.
  • Privacy Protection: over 50,000 known trackers, tracking cookies set by third-party sites, and fingerprinting scripts that build a profile from your browser and screen settings.
  • Block Annoyances: cookie notices, marketing widgets and chat pop-ups.
  • Block Adult Content: over 9,000 adult sites, which makes it useful on a phone or iPad that children use.

Free against Premium

The free version lets you switch on one category, for example Block Ads on its own. You can also allow ads on sites you want to support, straight from the Safari extension, and that allow list syncs between your devices through iCloud.

Premium switches on every category at once. It also adds custom rules: you can block any web address with a pattern, hide any part of a page by its CSS selector, and block cookies. Your settings and custom rules sync across iPhone, iPad and Mac through iCloud.

1Blocker prices in the UK

  • Monthly: £2.99
  • Yearly: £14.99
  • Lifetime: £39.99, paid once

The yearly plan works out at about £1.25 a month. If you expect to keep it for three years or more, the lifetime price costs less than paying yearly. 1Blocker supports Universal Purchase and Family Sharing, so one payment covers your Mac and iPhone and can be shared with your Family Sharing group.

What it cannot block

Some sites serve ads in ways a Safari content blocker cannot stop, so you will still see the odd ad. It also has no effect outside Safari. Ads in Chrome or Firefox on an iPhone, and ads inside apps, carry on as normal.

If you want blocking that covers every app on a device, look at a filtering DNS service such as NextDNS, which works at network level. If you would rather switch browser, Brave blocks ads and trackers inside its own browser on iPhone, Android and desktop.

Setting it up

After installing, open the app and switch on the categories you want. Then turn on 1Blocker's content blockers in Safari's Extensions settings, which the app walks you through step by step. On a Mac, the same switches sit in Safari's Settings under Extensions. The 1Blocker for Mac app can also show you which companies tried to track you on each site.

Platforms and requirements

  • iPhone and iPad: iOS 16 or later. The current version is 6.6.5, released on 1 October 2026, and the download is about 113 MB
  • Mac and Apple Vision Pro: covered by the same App Store purchase
  • Android and Windows: not available
  • Rating: 4.5 out of 5 from about 1,700 ratings on the UK App Store

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1Blocker free?

Yes. The 1Blocker ad blocker is free to download, and the free version blocks one category of your choice, such as ads or trackers. Switching on every category, plus custom rules, needs 1Blocker Premium.

How much does 1Blocker Premium cost in the UK?

£2.99 a month, £14.99 a year or £39.99 for lifetime access, according to the UK App Store on 5 October 2026.

Does 1Blocker work in Chrome on iPhone?

No. It is a Safari content blocker, so it only works in Safari. Chrome, Firefox and ads inside other apps are not affected.

Can 1Blocker see my browsing?

No. The app gives Safari a list of things to block and Safari does the filtering on your device. 1Blocker has no access to the pages you load.

Does one purchase cover my Mac and iPhone?

Yes. 1Blocker supports Universal Purchase, so Premium bought on one Apple device unlocks it on your others. Family Sharing is supported too.

Is 1Blocker good for blocking adult sites for children?

It has a Block Adult Content category covering over 9,000 sites. For full parental controls, pair it with Apple's own Screen Time content restrictions.
