What Is the Octopus Referral Scheme?
The Octopus referral scheme (aka “Refer a Friend”) is Octopus Energy’s built-in rewards programme. If a brand new customer joins Octopus using a valid referral link, both people get £50 energy credit once the switch is live and the first Direct Debit has been successfully taken.

What you actually get
- £50 energy credit added to your Octopus account (not a voucher, not cashback)
- The referrer gets £50 credit too, for the same successful switch
- No “promo code” box, no forms, no chasing (it’s tracked via the link)
When the £50 credit is added
The credit is applied after the switch has completed and your first Direct Debit payment has been taken successfully. Octopus says this is usually handled automatically within a few weeks, but it can take longer if anything delays the switch.
Who qualifies
- You need to be a new Octopus customer (not returning)
- You must start the sign-up via a referral link (not a comparison site sign-up)
- Your supply must go live and your first Direct Debit must be successful
