Zero booking fees
TrainPal doesn't charge any booking fees on UK train tickets. The price you see when you search is the price you pay. As a result, it's one of the most cost-effective ways to book rail travel in the UK.
Automatic split ticketing
When you search for a journey, TrainPal automatically checks whether splitting it into multiple tickets would be cheaper. You stay on the same train and don't need to change seats. Savings of 15 to 30 per cent are common on longer routes. In some cases, TrainPal claims savings of up to 90%.
PalPoints rewards
Every booking earns PalPoints, which you can redeem against future tickets. The conversion rate is roughly 100 PalPoints per £1 of discount. Points accumulate automatically but do expire after a set period, so it's best to use them regularly.
In-app refunds and Delay Repay
You can submit Delay Repay claims and manage refunds directly in the app. TrainPal also sends automatic alerts when your train is delayed or cancelled, so you can act quickly. Advance tickets can be amended but not refunded. Off-Peak and Anytime tickets, on the other hand, can be refunded within 28 days. All cancellations carry a £9.99 admin fee.
TrainPal Card
For £3 per month, the TrainPal Card gives an extra 3% off up to 10 tickets. It stacks on top of railcard discounts and promo codes. If you book three or more tickets a month, it typically pays for itself.
Digital railcards
You can also buy and store National Rail railcards directly in the app. Options include the 16-17 Saver, 16-25, 26-30, Senior, Family and Friends, Two Together, and Network railcards. Railcards cost £35 for one year or £80 for three years, and you must activate them with a ticket purchase within 30 days. Beyond UK rail, TrainPal covers Eurostar and operators across 47 countries, including SNCF, Renfe, Trenitalia and DB. You can book cross-border journeys in the same app you use for your daily commute.
What does TrainPal cost?
The app itself is free to download and use, and there are no booking fees at all. The optional TrainPal Card costs £3 per month. The only hidden cost to be aware of is the £9.99 admin fee on cancellations, which applies regardless of ticket type.
